I have a 10 gallon tank that could use a resealing... So, instead of resealing it, I was thinking about trying a diy tank with it. I have a bunch of extra pond liner (from the pond... doy) and I have some plywood... So all I need to buy is silly-cone and I can try this out.

I was thinking of attaching pond liner to each piece of the tank then assembling. After that I could silicone the seams and be done with it. Then I would silicone the front pane of glass (which is what I would get from the 10 gallon.

If this worked out I would probably get a betta for it, seeing as I have an extra aquaclear 20 and we have a nice selection locally...

Does this seam feasible? I would be doing 11 inches high (to give room for the 10 inch glass), 22 inches long, and 12 inches front to back. That would be about 12 gallons and I think it would make a great kitchen or classroom tank. My dad is a science teacher, so this would make a good tank for him. A betta and a couple of small tetras would make an easy to keep tank. I could do water changes for him :)

Again, does this method seem solid?

I guess I was not clear.

There are 5 sides to an aquarium. You take 4 of them and glue pond liner to them. Then, you take the 5th side and cut a hole in it, for the window (which will be made from the front glass of the 10 gallon tank). You cover the 5th piece (with the hole cut out) with pond liner and cut out the hole in the pond liner. Then you silicone the glass over the opening on the inside of the tank, this makes your window.

After that, you assemble your 5 sides with nails or screws (nails would not split the wood). Now, the only part you need to seal is the seams, which may be done with pond liner seaming tape or, in this case, silicone.

I was wrong with the dimensions, it would actually have to be 21.5 long, 13.5 tall, and 12 front to back. This would actually be about a 15 gallon tank. A male betta and 6 neon tetras would go nicely in this tank!

This weekend is going to be a DIY weekend. First the drain hose, then this tank, then my FBF. Expect a bunch of pictures from me.

Turns out my dad spilled epoxy all over the plywood I was gonna use, so I guess I will need some of that...

new 10 gallon tanks are $8 at walmart, i'd do that...

For 1: this will be a 15 gallon
For 2: I know that.
For 3: I wanna try this out
and lastly:
for 4: I love diy and I figure if it is inexpensive I might as well try it and maybe get something out of it.

Oh my, I hope HD lets me buy pieces of plywood instead of a whole sheet, I do not need 32sqft o the stuff!
