I clean my fx5 about 4x per year, takes about 10min, I just take out side, bag up the bio media and go to town with the hose! Easy!

What do some of you do?

We should have a race!

Man if I had a pressure washer I could have spent 5 min and most of that would be on the hose connections and bio removal.

I blast mine with the sprayer in the kitchen sink. Depending on how much sand is in it controls how long clean out takes. Minimal sand is about 10 minutes. Sometimes there is so much sand that the bottom sponges are like bricks and the drain jams up, these cleanings are closer to 30 minutes.

Wow that much? I have sand too and find hardly any. How longs it been running?

Usually around 3 months. My breeding geophagu iporangensis like to grab mouthfuls of sand in spit it directly into intakes, sometimes swimming over a foot away just to piss me off.

Maybe shorten the intake and use a wavemaker to direct debris towards it. This should cut down on the sand going the intake a lot.

I kid you not they grab a mouthful, swim 12", and spit sand with their face 1/2" from the intake. They do the same thing to an ac110 with 1 intake tube that's about a foot above the sand. If they were just kicking up sand I could fight back but this is premeditated.

Wow that's crazy. Prefilter with ac30 sponge!
