So I've got this pond on my property. Based on this pond calculator http://www.pondvolumecalculator.com/ it is about 100K gallons (115'x60'x2'). The shallow end is about one foot deep and has a small stream that runs into it. The other end is about three feet deep and has a 4 inch pipe that allows water to escape into a ditch so it always has fresh water in it. A couple years ago I capped the pipe to try and enlarge the pond but the water has found a way to escape anyway. There are cat tails at the shallow end and the deep end is clear of vegetation. There are newts and frogs in the pond. I live in the Oregon coast range and our winters are pretty mild. Other than the pipe it seems to be a naturally occurring feature. The bottom of the pond is basically mountain silt that has accumulated over time. You can't walk into the water without sinking a foot or two into the silt.

Hopefully the above provides enough info to answer my question. Does this sound like a pond that I could stock with fish? Would a pond like this support a channel cat or two? Or is this just a hole in the ground full of water?

Agreed,let's see it.

Damn homie! Put sturgeons in that beast! Call me bias but if I had that, I'd also put a goonch and a bunch of mahseer's since they thrive in cold water as well

Yep,sure does...works for me.

Well then, I guess I just need to figure out what to put in there then. I'd love a couple channel cats but don't they prefer warmer water?
