Hello All,

I'm in the process of setting up a 100gal tank for the benefit of my daughter; which I will benefit from stocking :headbang2

The stock was tranferred from a pond that we had.
- 5 Cichlids
- 4 adult tilapia
- 2 irredescent sharks (about 9" in size)
- 1 adult pleco
- small pair of albino severums

.. the stock is not really co-ordinated but its what we had.

I'm thinking to add, suggestions? BP's? more cichlids?

I'm also hoping to set a river bed substrate.. clay / sand / gravel / rocks / some plants

Any advice on what filter system might be best?

Thanks again :)

A DIY wet dry is not only cost effecient, but is also the best filter type when dealing with tanks 100g and over.......Espaecially with predator fish, you want the biological filtration and mechanical filtration at its best........Owning a proper filtration is half the battle, doing 50% weekly water changes is a must.........
As for mechanical filtration:
Two Aqua Clear 101's will do the trick........
As for Chemical and Biological filtration:
A DIY wet/dry that costs under $100, good enough for a 100g-180 tank:
Office Depot and Target stores......
A 33g plastic storage bin......$8-12
A plastic 3-drawer from Office Depot......$8-10
Filter floss enough to cover 5 inches high in the first drawer.......
From your local Chinatown store, $20 worth of scrubbies for bottom and second drawer........
A pump, which is your personal choice, but I use the Rio 20HD for my 125g....Rio HD cost $79.99.......

If you want another option to a sump, you could get a FX5 and one AC110. Should be good enough for your high bioload
