Hey everyone
im new to the forums and i gotta say this site is the best ;)

I just got a 100 gallon 6 foot x 18" x 18" this is my biggest tank so far :D the filters im running on it is a fluval fx5 and 1 aquaclear ac110 would this be enough filtration? I heard that the fx5 doesnt do alot biologically is this true
I am going the put filter media from my other tanks in these filters to cycle and the set-up i am going to do is have large river rocks stacked here and there with alot of driftwood and fake plants and i have fine white and brown gravel.

now the stocklist, i am open for any suggestions you may have
i have kept severums before and they are beautiful and great fish and i would like to have them again but if you have other suggestions please dont hold back lol
thanks and sorry for writing alot but im just really excited :)

First and foremost....Male Green Terror :D

severum, firemouth, convict, green terror, jack dempsey with lots of plants and hiding spaces and some silver dollars.

Fluval FX5 and a Aquaclear 110 and is plenty good on filtration ... as for stocking suggestions : Black Nasty

sounds like you have a good handel on the filteration and set up !!!

i would do severums, uara and geos :D

ohh wait i already did that :nilly: see my sig. it is a great tank !!! i think you would like it... you get the pleasure of large fish but you do not have to worry about coming home to dead fish because one whent nuts while you were at work.

hmm is there any other cichlids you like apart form sevs? maybe jags? GT's already mentioned.... JD's maybe ummm.... oscar?? convict..? FH? trimac..? salvini ? cubans? FM's..? what do you like?

also i think you have plenty of filtraion and the locks of rocks bog wood etc sounds good.

I like the big aggressive fish, like parachromis and amphilophus, espicially P. loisellei, A. xiloaensis, and A. zaliosus. I would choose a couple of those if I was in your shoes.

thanks for the replies i really appreciate it :)

hey mbunafishkeeper, yea there are alot of other cichlids i like but i really want to go back the sevs mine were very responsive with me. They were funny, they would only eat the food if it came from something yellow i dont know why lol

i already have FMs and convicts in one of my other tanks. i like the uaru idea but they are hard to find here. hey barley pop do uarus need to be in a group while they are juvies? do they need plants and veggies in their diets?

again thanks for the replies

I have and run several Fluval FX5 canisters and I'd like to take the time to clear up a rather HUGE misconception people seem to have about them.

While it's true that the FX5 was rated SLIGHTLY below the largest of the Eheim canister filters in bio filtration (in internet tests.) there are two things you need to take into concideration.

1) The test was run with a VERY poor selection of media chosen for the FX5. Most FX5 owners run nothing but ceramic rings (bio-media) in the baskets and get a far differant result.

2) Having slightly less bio-capacity that the Eheims in the tests is a LONG way from having a poor bio-capacity or none at all.

The reason I went to the trouble to point this out in answer to your question is that this is EXACTLY how internet myths start up and take hold.

Anyway....you have plenty of filtration for a 200 gallon tank let alone a 100 ...LOL
