Finally, I got a big tank. Well, compared to my last few anyway. I just set up my 100 gallon (72x18x18) tank, it has uber filtration, an Eshopps WD-300CS rated up to 300 gallons. Pretty happy with the sump so far, never used one before so its a nice change. And before anyone asks, the tank was well established and running when I bought it, so the media stayed wet and I just transferred the whole shebang to my place. Cycled and ready.

Now, my current stock, these came out of my 75 which I upgraded to the 100.
5 Geophagus Red Head Tapajos 6"
8 Bosemani Rainbowfish 2"
3 H. Carpintis "Escondido" 3-5"
6 Syno Petricola
1 Angelfish
1 Syno Hybrid 7"

Now, I have a breeding pair of the Geos that I will be giving their own tank for spawning. Everything else is pretty negotiable. Im trying to find a different grouping of fish, a little more activity, more variety. If I can keep the Angel and Geos, bonus. Would like some more color and size differences too.

Any ideas? Semi aggressive community tank doable?
Dont mind the photo, it was still settling after set up.

i hate sand, be a day before that clears...!-) looks nice eventually then clogs ya filter lol! im sure the main reason you've had few/no replys is because you should'er titled it which fish to keep i have to many?-) the texas will prob eventually kill all the other fish in a 100g so you'll be best selling them unless you plan on a one fish tank, you'll be ok with the rest for a while but some syno's get 12inch... geos max size 10 inch? most people wouldnt keep more than 2 12 inch fish in a 100g, btw im just as bad as you i have too many fish aswell.

If it were mine, I'd build around the Orange Head geo's ... a pair of Tapajos regani dwarf pike cichlids, a pair or two of Laetacara araguaiae blue forms, ect.

Great grab one a hard to find tank, there aren't many old style 100 gallon footprints around here.

i would agree that the texas will probably start to bully or kill tankmates.i would try to stay with SA cichlids.maybe if you take out the texas, you could try a few small acaras,or a severum.but your bio-load is pretty maxed out.great tank though, longer the better

She finally cleared up! Looks great now. Just a slight haze but I think it could just be the glass tops need cleaning badly lol. The Texas I already figured on re-homing. I got them as juvies because they were $1 each at an auction and thought about breeding for Red Texas for awhile but meh, not really interested in that anymore. These synos are fullgrown and MAYBE 4" tops. Very small synos. The Geos are fullgrown and about 5.5-6" each. Im lucky that my sump is amazing, gotta love overfiltration.

Yeah, they are starting to get a little agressive already, so they are up for grabs right now. I was thinking about a severum! I love the reds. I know Im parting with my syno petricolas too, so that will open up the bioload for sure.

Here's an updated picture now that its settled.

If your sand is clouding your water, you aren't doing it right. I've never had sand cloud my water at all, whatsoever. Not even 1 second after new sand was put in the tank and the tank was filled.

Rinse, rinse, rinse, and when you think you're done rinsing, do it a few more times. And don't use kiddy play sand.

My 125 will have an end stock of 3 severum (1 super red and 2 notatus) and 6 geophagus red heads (4 if I get a pair to breed). Your 100 is a 4' I am assuming, so I personally would keep the 5 geos, the angel and the rainbows and then add a single severum. Then call it done.
