Hi all. Just getting back into the hobby after 13 years. My question is would these cichlids be ok for a 100 gallon tank (60x18x20) or 100 gallon (48x24x20)
2x Breeding pair Archocentrus Nigrofaciatus (Convict)
1x Herychthis Carpinte (Green texas)
1x Vieja Maculicauda (Black belt)
1x Astronotus Ocellatus (Oscar)
Sorry if i did not get the scientific names correct :irked: been out of it for a while. Any advice would be helpful. thanks.

Not if the convicts breed, which they will.

:iagree: Breeding convicts will terrorise the rest of the inhabitants.........

Understood about the "Cons". Bred them for about ten years.:D Aside from that would this amount of fish be about right or considered "overstocked" for the size of tank or would I be able to add a little more? Thanks.

I don't think stocking would be a problem, just go with 1 con and 1 of something else (firemouth?)

I doubt the 6 inch con can take out a 12 inch carpinte i would be worried about the cons being terrorized by the other fish. The oscar on the other hand is a big baby and dont tend to defend themelvs. the black belt could hold its ground.

I have some experience with keeping breeding cons with larger cichlids and I never really had a problem. The cons are too small to do anything to 10" cichlids, but they are strong enough to defend their young.

Thanks for the responses. I might drop the Oscar and the female con and go for an Ornate Bichir or Del Bichir and maybe add a Firemouth. Undecided yet but will do more research. Again thank you.

isnt the rule for your fish 1 inch = 1 gallon . i think as long as you fallow that you shoundt have to many fish in the tank.

is that what the rule is? Maybe I should go buy a 2 foot dovii for my 29 gallon then.
