Hey guys, my blood parrot just died last night..=( but she was in great health just like a day before and tonight i just found her on the bottom of the tank, but i dont know why she died? All other fish in the tank is fine eating well and shows no sign of sickness...but upon autopsy the gills were all white on one side and a little red on one side, does this mean anything?

Thanks for any info guys..im kinda stumped...

I've been into blood parrots, purple parrots, king kong parrots, and red mammons for 10-15 years now. :screwy:
They are a tough hybred cichlid for the most part, but imo are prone to sudden death syndrome, :WHOA: its in their genes.
I always pick up a couple more than I need just to compensate for 1 or 2 untimely deaths, and if it does'nt happen, double bonus points. :naughty:

White gills could have possibly been a parasite.

parasites would kill in one day?

It would not be in one day, but they could have been in there for a long time and just did not show themselves.
Sounds gross, but you could an autopsy, but if you do not know what you are looking for parasite wise, you may not even see anything.

Any type of stress brings out sickness. Was their any flashing? White stringy poop? It does sound like a parasite.

well the poop is normal...i dont know about flashing though. they do kind of wiggle their fins sometimes is that considered flashing? also should i be concerned about the other fish in the tank right now? they all seem to be fine and eating well..

white puffy gill sheets = burst/inflamed (and already decomposing) gill vessels. ur not gonna find much evidence from that other than it was gill related. if it died hours ago it coulda looked completely different in there.

occasionally vibrating fin tips i found is common among cichlids. i like to think its "communication". lol but i noticed even wild cichlids were doing it when i went snorkeling in a lake my last trip.
