100 year old cedar driftwood

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
boil it or soak with bleach water and soak with clean water and sun dry for about 2-3 weeks it should be ok

So I went ahead and bought the wood. I'm very pleased. I might get one more small piece for the other side of the tank. Although it was more money than I anticipated ($100) I'm very happy with it as it has tunnels and caves built right into it. Very worth it if you ask me. And really nice guy.

I plan to soak it in bleach water today (don't have any pots big enough to boil it). I just wanted to see how it'd look in the tank beforehand. How much bleach to water would you say is a good ratio? Obviously gunna want it very diluted. But not so much that it doesn't kill anything growing on it

1 cup of bleach to 4.5/5g of water is what i usually do.
if you cant boil them what i do for big pieces is pour
boiling water into the bucket/tote the wood is soaking in.
also sometimes i soak it for a week and then throw it in
my buddy's restaurant's walk-in freezer for a week.
