I'm going to build a 1000 gallon (964) wood tank. The dimensions are going to be 8'x4'x4' with a small twist. I don't own my own house yet so I want to make the tank so I can brake it down and move it out without having to destroy doorways or the tank. My idea was to make two halves of a tank 8'x2'x4' front and back sections that bolt together with plywood sheeting to support the pond/pool liner. The frame will be of 4''x4'' timber. I'll scan in my sketches later but your input would really help me with this project. Oh and a 1'' thick acrylic front. I think it would be almost like Joe's 1700 Black Tip setup with out the fiberglass.

well it could work, what might be better than the pond liner is to build the 2 halves. a front section and a back section... then used epoxy to seal the 2 sections... now the tricky part, and how to say it right... on the end of both sections, which would be the center of the tank, would be 2by4"s.. acrossed the sides and the bottom and the top, and all you would have to do is lay the back on the ground, put silicon down along the 2by4 edge.. now place the front section with the glass up, down in the silicon and bolt the 2 halves together.. the silicon should seal it if you put enough on there... and when you need to move it... drain it, and then tip it back on it's side,,, unbolt it, and use some type of wire, and use the wire to cut threw the silicon... and you will be able to separate the 2 sections again... then clean both sections off really good, and your back to getting ready to put silicon on again to seal it back up after you move it....

hope you under stand what I'm trying to say..

Depending on what you keep in there, a pool liner might be a horrible idea, haha. BUT... if done very carefully im and with species of fish that wont pick at it (Like, maybe a cichlid would or something) then im sure it would be amazing.

I'm going to have Pacu, RTC, Tiger Oscar and some Peacocks. Their all still babies so I want them to get full sized.
The dealer told me 60Mil. is very tough and the standard pond liner is 30-40Mil.

i read the title and thought you bought a 1000g for 500$. :x

Change (resave) the bitmap file in Jpeg and then it will upload normally.

I have to agree with the people telling you it'll be better all around to fiberglass seal the two halves of the tank and then deal with a single seam. This can also be sealed with a 1/2" thick 2" wide strip of rubber between the halves. The bolts houlding the havles of the tank together will provide plenty of pressure to keep it water tight.
