ok so im getting a 100g cycled and setup tank. it'll have a sand substrate, driftwood decor and 2 penguin 350 HOB filters. I want to do a PEACEFUL midsize(5"-12") CA/SA cichlid tank. so here were some of my thoughts (not actual stock but more or less fish of consideration)
Mid-Top Level Swimmers

Firemouths
Severums
Nicaraguensis
Keyhole
Uara
Festivums

And i was really interested in doing some Eartheaters. So i had a couple in mind

Geophagus: Proximus, or Daemon
or the Red-Hump Eartheater

so im just looking for thoughts/opinions or maybe suggestions of other PEACEFUL cichlids in the size range

Thanks!!!

I love my little severum, and just bought a chocolate. They're both as personable as oscars, but are nice enough to the other fish in the tanks. I haven't owned one, but I think red-head geos are pretty cool.

Go with this list if you can find them. Some will have to be ordered from vendors, but are totally worth it.

Krobia sp. 'xingu orange spot'
Satanoperca daemon
Hoplarchus psittacus
Crenicichla acutirostris
Silver Dollars of our choice
Fei Feng

I've had this set up minus the Satanoperca, and it worked out superbly. Very active, colorful, and enjoyable to watch. :)

I'd go with the list you have, minus the nics. Every one I've ever had was a nippy little bastard. They'd rip the streamers off everyone, even tearing up my ornate's fins. I think the rest would make a really cool tank. I love the red humps. I just had to get rid of a male with a huge hump, but he had a lot of attitude, though. I think you'd be fine to add any of the eartheaters there, as long as your quantities of each are appropriate. Which in a 100g, won't be many of each.

hey thanks guys.
BUMP for any more opinions??

Theraps irregularis, Thorichthys aureus, Krobia guianensis,Tahuantinsuyoa macantzatza (very interesting breeding behaviour),

Herotilapia Multispinosa, the Rainbow Cichlid, and yeah I've heard Nic's can be very aggressive. Don't Uaru's do better in schools?

I'm eventually going to get some Uara & Keyholes (will have to order online) so my vote is for them plus look into the Chocolate Cichlid like 'bluegryffin' said. I adore my Chocolate, what a great personality. My 2 Severums are great fish, too, but are a bit shyer. Not sure if all Sevs are that way or not. You've got nice taste in fish!

I could definitely see severums, with a few festivums and a firemouth or two. Geo's are really nice looking too, but in my experience harder to find.

thanks again guys :D i think this list is turning out nicely :D:D
