Hi,

I have a 100gallon (375 liter), 5 foot long (150cm).
I currently have:
5 small juwel cichlids 1 and 1/2 inch, hoping to pair up and sell the remaining 3.
2 firemouths about 3 inch
1 small green terror 2 inch, probably female.

I'm planing to get a small jack dempsey. So my question is, Would it be to much with
1 pair of firemouth
1 pair of juwel cichlids
1 GT
1 JD
If so, could I skip the pairs and go for 1 of each?
Or mayby skip the firemouths and keep the juwel pair with the JD and GT?

I'm aware of that they are from different parts of the world but they usually go fine together.
Looking forward to your answers.

Welcome aboard David

Tbh I would be concerned about the Jewel Cichlid's. When they mature and pair off they will cause problems especially with the less aggressive Firemouth that occupy the bottom areas.

If you want to do that many different species, I'd recommend not doing the pairs, and getting only male or only female fish instead. The pairs will throw a wrench in the mix most likely.
Will have to keep an eye on them, and It would be a good idea to have another tank running in case it doesn't work out; communities with CA/SA cichlids require a lot of luck, and the dynamics can change overnight.

Thank you for your answers!

So maybe start out with 1 of each (Green terror, Jack dempsey, firemouth and juwel) in young age and the be prepared to remove any of them?

A similar stocking did not work for me. Jewel eventually jumped out and commited suicide due to bullying. Firemouth, JD, and Green Terror would end up pretty similar. Too many continents in one tank. Narrow it down and maybe add more of all fish from the same continent. I recommend a group of firemouths, a group of GT eventually down to a single pair, same for JD as GT. You could add bottom dwellers, dithers, oddballs, etc.

I want more than one type of cichlid. If I add more than one of either GT or JD l'm thinking that the tank is not bit enough If they desides to start a family. Thanks för your input on juwels.
