My 100g is up and running now (well cycling) and I'm still stumped on what to put in it. I've been looking a African cichlids cause the wife and I decided we want alot of color in this tank. I've spent the last 2 weeks surfing the net (at work) trying to figure out which kind of fish to get and I'm still stumped.
Basically what I want is atleast 4 different types/colors, either semi-agressive or neutral disposition, and lastly be able for all of them to live in the same water parameters.

Maybe I'm asking alot but I know you guys can help me out.

Im not really to much into pretty Afirican Cichlids anymore because once I started keeping American bruisers there personality out weighed any colors they were missing. A big Cichlid like a Trimac or Oscar can be kinda like having a dog in a tank.

American Bruiser...Forgive me, what is that

problem with 90% of american, ca/sa "bruiser" cichlids, is that you may be able to keep 2 or 3 MAX in an 100 gallon tank, and that is if you have at least a 6' length in the tank footprint. If you want good color, you could try some smaller, less bruising ca/sa cichlids, such as- green terror< which even though name sounds scary, is in general not very aggresive, jack dempseys- again big name, not big aggresion, or fish of that sort which max at 10-12", and you'd be able to probably have a nice community of 5-6+ in a 6 foot 100 gallon aquarium.

Id go for one or two big one's myself.. I did the africans for awhile, i did the SW aggressive, reef and pretty Fish only with live rock... Only two things i love are the big CA/SA monsters, and Reefs.

Only things I haven't had room for are things like Gar / Lungfish / Aro's etc etc... Im sure id like those too tho haha.

I see where you are going but I was wanting atleast 15 to 20 fish in this tank.

Seems like a waste to have a 100g and only 1 fish in it

When that fish is a show quality 15" Monster id have to disagree.

If you want lots of cichlids, go with African cichlids, SA / CA wont fit too many in there.

You could pick up species of False Gar... those would fit well in a tank of that size, they are fun to watch and amazing little guys.

I too started out with Africans. I had a 55 gallon with about 20 Mbuna (really colorful fish).

Now I have 1 CA cichlid as my main fish, with many non-cichlids in my 125. Large New World cichlids are the way to go. I will never look back.

If you get Africans, I bet you still eventually switch to New World. Much larger, very much personality, and you can still get some great colors.

oh yeah, i love the personality and color... The two most personable fish i've ever had are Buttikoferi and my new Flowerhorn... The horn is awesome, he seems pretty chill with me, he'll even let me touch him, but if anybody else puts their hands to the tank, bam glassbanger.
