I am looking into building a glass 100gal long tank (72x18x18)! Originally my plan was to do a bulk order from a local aquarium company but thought hey I need six tanks so why not look into building them at the very least!

Thoughts suggestions?

got any specific questions ?

18x18 is low enough so you won't need to use a very thick glass but since it's quite long you should use come center brace ( unless the whole thing is braced )

Good luck and tell us something more so that we can know how to help ya !

Well I guess the main thing would advice from those who have done it before. My plan was to have a 3" glass lip around the top of the tank and at least one 3" centre brace for added strength! But do I build a jig? not sure really how the best plan of attack is!

I've made this ---> http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=266295 =]

"jig" ???

yeah a center brace would be wise

how thick is the glass you plan on using ? any overflows, holes, drilling anything ?

take care

"jig" ??? = wooden frame to keep everything in place till it cures.

how thick is the glass you plan on using ? any overflows, holes, drilling anything ? 3/8 I thought but I am not a 100%sure what is best. My fishroom runs on a air manifold so no holes!

Thanks

oh got ya, well then seems like you got a plan and you know what you're doing ! Make sure to feed us with some pics taken along with making the tank ;)

LOL You have more confidence in my abilities then I do!! I'm just throwing ideas out there, new ones don't hurt!!

Any help is very much appreciated!

you wanna make it easy for yourself ... put some braces on the bottom first, so that later on you will not have to worry about the side glass panels shifting from its proper position, they will simply be restricted from moving once you apply the silicone ... it will also be an extra support for the glass ;) ( I hope that made sense )

Good luck !!!

You don't need a 3" lip. That's a complete waste of glass and effort. All you need is a center brace. If you insist on having the 3" lip, the center brace is not necessary. I'd advise against the 3" lip though because it prevents you from using any HOB filters.

Glasscages.com sells the tank frame trim. I have another source, but I have to find the link for it.
