I'm going to be setting up a small 10 gallon tank in my dorm room soon. I'm most likely going to put a pair of blue rams, a few ottos and 2 pygmy gouramis in it. What kind of filtration sysytem should I use in this mini monster tank.

A mini wetdry. I'm guessing that you have a limit in the dorms to 10 gallons. I've used the penguin mini's with the biowheels, which have worked well for me. However, all of my 10 gallon tanks end up with a basic filtration and then plants to help even out everything.

What's the best brand for the wet dry filter? Yeah, we have a 10g limit.

Me personally I don't like to run a single filter. To likely for something to happen that might stop the filter. Especially in a dorm with people possible coming in and out. On my 10g tanks I tend to run a pair of penguin 200 biowheel filters. Honestly thats overkill though. In your case a pair of the smaller penguin 100's would be a good way to have redundancy and not break the bank.

hehe I've overkilled mine to ... Poor feeders (comets) need to swim their buns off or get plastered to the glass in my 5 1/2 gallon it's got 2 Aquaclear 50's on it... actually had one of the poor guys getting sucked up the intake... he was no match for it LMAO

My son likes to watch them swim fast so I added these cause they were all I had around the house

I recently bought a penguin 100 bio-wheel, but my stupid tank is ALWAYS cloudy. I do 25% water changes everyday, but still, it remains cloudy! Stupid filter system!

Me? I don't have the tank yet. I'm setting it up in January.

A sensibly sized HOB filter should be fine, and if you want backup then you could install an old school undergravel filter run off an airpump. No great cost, and it would be usefull extra/backup filtration in that size tank.

Get your new filter and set it up in an existing tank now - that way it will be pre-cycled by the time you need it ;)

Cheers
