I'll be moving my comets out of their 10 gallon to a 250 gallon pond in a week or two and will have a open 10 gallon tank. I've done some reading and learned that there are a few plants that can grow with low light and no fo2 injector setups. What plants would you suggest. I have an old light fixture from a frog tank. Would this work for any plants. I plan to stock with 3-5 neon tetras and 2-3 African dwarf frogs. Does this sound ok.

Java ferns and Anubias nana are my two favourite low light plants. Java ferns make a great background plant for small tanks, and anubias nana stay nice and small. Moss is great too.

As for your stocking, I think that a type of fish better off is smaller group would be better. Neon tetras like bigger groups, usually at least 6+.

So do you think the reptile light would be enough and I have a whisper 2-3 so do I need to use this if Im just using a few plants. Also what fish would you suggest for a 10g with a few dwarf frogs.

I'm not sure what the reptile light will do, if anything. Is it a UVB light or just a normal florescent light?

Absolutely use the filter if you don't already have one on there. Plants can help keep nitrates down, but are not a replacement for filters. You want to make sure that you give each frog about 2 gallons each, so remember to keep that in ming when stocking fish.

You may keep a school of neon tetras, but try to keep it down to 1-2 frogs in that case, and have at least 6 neons. Ember tetras or glowlight tetras may be a better fit. Galaxy rasboras or other dwarf rasboras might be a good choice as well. All these guys do need a heated tank, so be sure you have a working heater.

If it's not heated, you can't really go wrong with white cloud minnows! Danios could work as well.

I have not actually started the tank yet, I have to move my comets outside to the pond next week and Ill start then. My Petsmart has a terrible section of plants, do you know of a good online supplier? I plan to have 2 dwarf frogs, 6 neon tetras and a mystery snail. Does that sound ok?

I just stocked my tank with 2 pea puffers...and a bristlenose pleco. So far, the puffers completely ignore the pleco.

That seems good! The only thing I can think of is to make sure your frogs are getting their share of food, but having sinking pellets with a good amount of protein for the frogs should avoid any problems.

I'm afraid I've never ordered plants online, so I am not familiar with any of the sites. Hopefully someone else with more experience in that regard can come along.

Good luck with moving your comets outside! Who knows, pretty soon you may have some sleek, foot long goldies in that pond!

Thanks, I had a frog for a few days a while ago, he was sick when I got him and dies within 2 days. He ate frozen bloodworm according to Petsmart. Is this right or should I go with the pellets. Im still researching so itll be a while before I stock it.
