hey guys im planing on starting a 10g reef tank with soft corals in it and the live stock i was planing on getting two clown fish and im planing to put 10 lbs of live rock in it to

but i dont know what kind of lighting to use?
and is it ok to use the filter that came with it but with no media in it?
and what size of powerhead to use to?

thanks
thomas

Depends on the corals, some corals (Soft or hard) will require alot of light, in which case you will want alot of light (not to much 150W or 250W at the most metal halides would be the easiest) both other soft corals require little light but alot of food. So in the end it depends on the softies you intend to put in.
Powerheads I have no idea... something in the nano size, but I havent seen any powerhead with a flow under 250gph and you wouldnt want any thing that strong i would think, you would likely need something around 100gph at the very most... others will likely be able to advise you better in that area.
With your filter, the standard will suffice likely, you can choose to add additional bio-filtration media, or you could put in a reactor type media which removes chemicals or wastes from the water. Bio-media would be like TheCanuck said would be floss or sponge or something like that, as for reactor type there is alot of medias that you can use (carbon, GFO etc), it realy depends on what you intend to remove for the water.

if your doing just soft corals you don't need any special lighting as far as a power-head you can use a korallie nano and for your filter just have some good activated carbon to keep the water from getting its yellow tint.
