I have a 90g tank with a flowerhorn and have and extra 10g, a filter, heater and gravel to set up a tank. I was thinking about getting some type of fancy shrimp that I could also use as food, and is easy to breed.

Anyone have suggestions for maybe other types of shrimp?

With only shrimp in the tank would I have to do water changes one a week?

Java moss and java fern be ok in the 10g alone? Just plant food and some light would be all it would need right?

shrimp are are hard to keep in a 10 gallon, because you have little room for error in your water peramiters, but at the same time it's easy, because you don't get shifts as much if your tank is stable. I wrote an article a few years ago about how I breed 20 CRS into over 200 and only did water changes once every 3 months. If you have the right balance in the tank, the right plants, snails, and don't over feed you really don't need to change the water that often, but you do need to add water. I would go with Red Cherry Shrimp (RCS) as they are not as sensitive or expesnive as other shrimps. Plus they breed like crazy so you should always have a good stock. I would drop a few in my Angel Fish tank a while back. The loved shrimp and I loved watching them chase em like crazy. I would actually keep my Angel fish eggs on a slate in the RCS tank as they would do an amazing job of cleaning the eggs without actually eating them. You just have to make sure you get them out before they become wrigglers.

Wow awesome. Thanks for the reply. Do you still have that article? I would be very interested.
