hi all,

i am new in this forum, normally i would be in the arowana or polypterus sections..

ive already ordered a 10x3x3 which will be coming next 2 weeks. wooden cover n stand. i have also ordered a 6x3x2.5 sump.

first compartment: jap mats
2nd compartment : biorings (100 kgs)
3rd compartment : biorings (100 kgs)
4th compartment : 2 return pumps and uv light.

my question is, would the sump be able to handle the bioload?
i currently have in my 5.5x2.5x2.5 :

7 aros, 15 pacus, 10 sultans (leptobarbus hoevenii), 4 giant gouramis, 1 rtc, 1 fire eel, 4 silver catfish.. it looks crowded in the current setup..

any comments?

thanx in advance..

I would cut down on 15 pacus, 10 sultans. I would try to add some biomedia into 1st compartment as well.

get rid of the pacus for sure, they'd get way too big anyway... same goes for the rtc unfortunately

i would try to squeeze in as much bio media as possible

wow 440 lbs of ceramic? thats a ton. well maybe like a quarter ton, but wow i want to see this. what about pond matrix? everything i read makes it sound good and its cheaper than good ceramic

add some mechanical filtration in the first compartment, eg filter wool or it will clog up your jap matt really fast.

i'll stack filter wool over the jap mat. thanx..

i guess i'll take out the rtc once it hits 1 foot.

15 pacus are gonna need a pond or small lake. If you filled the whole sump with biomedia , the pacus would still be too much load on the system very soon.

yeah, they eat like crazy.. i'll reduce the pacus to 5 i guess..

I don't think I'd do one pacu in that tank. For one, your tank is 3ft wide, and they get about 2-3ft long. Additionally, your tank is 3ft tall, and they get what looks about 2ft tall. Are you planning on being able to fit any substrate or hardscape in there?

Maybe I'm misjudging them, but I have seen a full-grown pacu. They're also kind of ugly, and you really don't want to be bitten by a big one.

Definately if you can get the pond matrix then it is much better. Not only way more surface area, but also the ability to house anerobic bacteria that reduce nitrate.
