Hi, well i have been asked to take a 11inch redtailed catfish kept in a Tank three foot,15/18 inch real odd size, also kept with cichlids, otherwise the bloke in question said he will give it to our lfs, which i know will sell it on to anyone provided they pay, so i have a 5foot/2foot/2foot with....

...

4, 10-12inch silver bala sharks
1, 8inch disc spotted silver dollar
1, 10inch female channa pluero

4, 5-6inch pictus--1 8inch senegal birchir which i will DEFFO MOVE..

Question is can i keep this boy for a while? we have contacted the local aquarium who at present have all the quaranteen tanks full to brim, poss a few months before they could receive again...
how long is poss in a tank my size?

He might fit the tank for 3 maybe 4 months tops but the bigger worry is how many of your present stock will get eaten.

hehe yes that was my thoughts aswell...obviously the pictus n birchir will go, but would a 11incher eat a 10-12inch bala or snakehead? just one of my lfs had a huge retail in a large trop pond with convicts and other smallish cichlids and they never seemed to dissapear, but ive never really read up much on these beautys...hehe

If fed properly and kept in decent water it will be cramped in 6 months or so...

Some fish grow faster than others. These *can* grow stupid fast. I had one, it grew faster than any fish I've ever had.

wow that is quick, not sure what to do, just let matey take it to the lfs and hope they dont sell it to someone with a smaller tank, last one they had in the shop was a 3-3.5foot specimen and he tried a number of times to sell it to me,knowing my five foot tank i had and my stocking i had, said itd be fine,

ya kiss your fish goodbye mine ate my oscar then my jd ya ya big deal
untill my silver arowana was in his mouth

yes i understand this now, getting another 5 or 6 footer maybe just maybe a 8footer,depends whats for sale second hand round my way,,,but just thought of taking it in as a solo in the five foot, then donating to local aqaurium either end of summer to end of year, but seems it could be much much quicker, just dont want it going to that fish shop.....chloe on here knows what im on about,,

if it was the only fish in that tank hed be good for a while. some will fight me on this but fed every 3 days or so he could last up to 8 months, but realisticly it would be more like 5-6
