11 Jags living fine in a 125 gal.

I have 11 baby Jags living in a 125 right now. Like I said, they are 2" max. right now. My lfs told me I would probably be able to house 6-8 of them at full grown size, but from what I have read on this site, that might not be the case. I am just looking for some advice on what to do in a year or so when they get bigger.

Does anybody have this many Jags in a tank, and if so, how are they doing?

Your fish store lied to you to make a sale, it is as simple as that. You will probably end up with one breeding pair and the rest of them killed of. As they grow and aggression level rise you can start selling them off one by one until you have one that you most desire, or a pair that you most desire.
 
I doubt that you'll be able to keep more than 2 in there. If you have 1 you'll be more likely to have tankmates, but if you have 2 that have paired off....forget about it lol.

It’s not that they will not tolerate each other, the tank is simply too small to hold all of them; you will not be able to keep much in the tank without them killing it. You will have a pair of aggressive fish that are 18”+.
 
i had some jags, was well happy to find a female 4 my male:D put her in and he started bashing her up straight away, following day i came home from work to a dead female jag:irked:

i also have a red devil a bit bigger in size than male jag (jag was 9inches)

so coz i wanted some fish in the tank NOT just a lone jag i put the devil in there:D put him in b4 going to bed, got up 4 a drink about a hour - hour and a half and there was just a devil:eek: i no the devil would put the jag in his place but that was a bit OTT:nilly:


but jag's are funny i had 1 like you say that was a pussy had him in with, sev's, angle's, con's,malawi's,arro, TFB's, blue eye's load's of types of cat's BUT never tryed him with a 2nd jag

the big male jag i had was not the same at all, he went throught some mbuna (red Z's x2) some cons x2, beet the hell out of the pim cat and killed his mrs, and when i put the red D in there it was all the jag to start with.

there is no way in h*ll 11 jags will live in a 125 gallon just grow them til about 4 inches a they will start to fight alot and then sell them off and keep the one you like the most or if you want a pair wait until the dominate male and the dominate female pair off and get rid of the rest because they will be quickly killed by the pair.
