My favorite monster, all he ever did was stay in his log and mind his own business until I'd come to the tank. Probably the best looking ornate I've ever seen from his diet of shrimp and Hakari pellets that my Oscars miss. Came home from moving all day and he was gone. the screen at the top of my tank is totally secure, but I spent 3 hours searching my completely empty room(moving) anyways. I kept trying to convince myself that my gar, who is about the same size, even slightly shorter, and had already eaten a huge goldfish that day, didn't look extra large. Finally after I couldn't justify searching anywhere else, I did the goldfish test... I know my gar can eat exactly 3 large goldfish with no tail protruding from his mouth, so I fed him another one and sure enough, he could only swallow half of it... The Bichir was even larger than the gar and there was no sign of him, not even some tail sticking out the gar's mouth, but something large had to be occupying his belly... lesson learned...

Damn.... That sucks. The bichir was larger than the gar but eaten anyways? An 11" bichir eaten !! How big and what species was the gar ??

That stinks beyond compare. I was considering getting a gar, you might have just made me change my mind.
