Where The Wild Things Are
one of my ornate bichirs is bloated after a feeding today. its butt is swollen too. which is the best method of treating it. ive read the thread about bloat on the sticky but anyone have any input. im pick up the medicine tomorrow i added salt already. water is still clean had a WC two days ago. i dont have any extra tanks running right now either so i have to treat the whole tank. please i need your input. i dont want to lose it.

I can't think of much after my article.
Did you gravel wash when you performed the water change? It's important unless your tank is BB.
Remember to remove carbon/resins from your filter.
Good Luck.

Which salt did you add, Giang? Since you mentioned your bichir got bloated right after feeding time, could you please tell us what foods you used and how much food the bichir ate? It could simply be constipation although the description adding swollen butt throws me off. I'd fast the fish for a few days. If you do not have a spare tank, try a spare tub and be sure to fasten it with a lid or the bichir will jump out.

i have them on black sand and i did do a vac on it too. goldfish feeders as a treat yesterday but they were quarantined for a while. he ate alot of them to. today i fed shrimp just so everything ate. later in the day i checked on the tank he was bloated. -__- might have been the feeders?

I think you should cut back on the amount of foods you give. Fast all your fish for a few days up to a week and change the diet by erasing goldfish out of the menu. If after a few days to a week, none improves, then consider giving your bichir an epsom salt bath. You never mentioned what salt you used. Get a spare tub or tank to isolate him. You really need a hospital tank for cases like this. Spare tanks should be a must.

My ornates seldom eat live and then, they're never fed feeder goldfish.Mine eat earthworms, cut raw shrimp, and (mainly) sinking sticks. Get it on sticks and quit on feeders.
