I just bought a NIB Fluval FX5 on eBay for 199 shipped (GOOD DEAL?)

I'm pretty sure it doesn't come with any filter media.....

I am going to run it on my new 110gal Native Tank where I will house some local species: (Crappie, Sunfish, LMB maybe, pickerel)

What filter media setup would you use??

I'm new to canister filters so details are important.....Thanks

good deal, i did the same. get that filter through patsmart or a similar company and it would cost you $300 plus. i am running one on my 125g useing prefilter in the top basket and rest with biomax. not gonna be cheap to get it all but biomax works really well.

If you have a substrate in your tank like gravel. That will hold a good amount of bio-bacteria as well. So you would not have to depend on the fx5 for all the bio-filtration. If this is the case then i would do the top tray in a filter pad or floss and then maybe a fine filter pad next followed by as many pot scrubbies as you can fit in there. --------there is a sticky on filter media's at the top of the page.
