Idk how i thought of thisbut i mean all ot os is silicon holding ittogether... So say i take the back pannel off 2 55s, siliconed the tanks together and then mad heavy duty braces for the seam.... Do u thinkthis could work? Idk i figure on the inside put the exta panels of glass to try n stabalize it as much as posaible and on the outside make a 2x4 or somethin brace and stand for the outside seem?

If braced properly it can be done. Someone on here made a 139G by attaching two 55's with a 29 all end to end. He braced the tops, bottoms, and all seams together in one frame and it actually didn't look too bad. There's a thread somewhere about it but I'm too lazy(buzzed) to look it up right now

if i were to do it i would take that extra back and front panel and get them cut and use them to replace the current side panels. then i would just brace the seam on the bottom panele with another piece of glass since it would only see a vertical load. then build a new top and bottom frame. could look cool

Ahah very true.... Would glass thickness come into play at all? Since ur basiacally doubling the water volume

I`ve seen it done by over lapping glass panels at the joints. Seems they were about 8" wide. It worked but really was`nt pretty with the split right in the middle like that.

No i would take the pannels apart and make the walls all one pannel... The only split would be on the bottom where the 2 bottom pieces come together... So ot would still be 2 ft wide by 48 inches long.. Im not sayinh me a supper long tank thated be dum lol i was thinkin depth

could you not:

remove the right side of one and the left o the other.
remove the front panels of both (beware this is not a pleasent task. geta glass scraper and white spirit and wire wool.
silicone the back and bases together
use1 of the sides to patch the back panel. plenty of ha6 silicone
use the other for the base
if the tank has any kind of bracing at the top. remove it.
buy 2" wide x 6MM thick lenghts of glass. 2 x interior length of tank 2 x interior width of the tank. these will for the upper brace of the tank aka "euro Brace"
buy a front pane of glass
build a canopy
job done!
stick a background on the back to cover the patch!

glass thickness is determined by depth 99% obviously if youve got a 6ft tank which is 1ft high, techcnically it would be safe to have 6mm glass....BUT REALLY??

important thing to remember is taht its only a glass box! dont overthink it!
