I have a 110 gallon tank that I've starting converting from SW to FW. I'm kicking around some ideas in regards to stocking. I'm considering the following fish. I'm also going to be building an Algae Scrubber like in the DIY thread to help manage my Nitrate levels. Currently filtration is a sump with BioBalls and scrubbies.

The following

Oscar
Jack Dempsey
5-10 Giant Danios

Do you think I'm going to be overstocked? If I'm not overstocked I'm considering adding a firemouth, convict or both. If I am overstocked I'd considered switching the Jack Dempsey with a Firemouth or Convict.

I've had an Oscar before so I know how messy of a fish they are. I remember having poop that was huge by fish standards in the tank. My last Oscar was in a 55 gallon and required a lot of work to keep nitrates down.

I'd go with an oscar and a severum or two, or some plecos with the oscar, or an oscar pair

I'd go with a Dempsey, Firemouth, a couple Convicts and some Giant Danio's or Tiger Barbs in a school of 6-8. You wouldn't be overstocked as long as you have adequate filtration you'll be fine. Oscars are extremely personable fish, but also extremely messy. I'd also suggest getting them when they're all young.

Boy, I've got to read what I write before I hit submit and not write as I'm on my way out for work.

As far as personality goes how to Jack Dempsey's relate? I'm certain it's not an Oscar. I've had a young JD before, but he jumped one night and I found him on the floor. (FYI, this tank has a better lid)

The more I think about it, a Jack Dempsey with the others minus the Oscar, sounds like a good combination. My wife will be happy as there will be life in the tank. I will be happy having a "big" fish in the JD.

I would certainly get all the fish young.

My Jack Dempsey's are entertaining. My pair spawned last night while I was sleeping and all day today, they bickered with each other and would drift away from the eggs. While they were gone a couple of my Texas would come up and eat the eggs. As soon as the pair realized what was going on they'd stop fighting and start chasing them away. I've had an entertaining day watching these fish to say the least lol.

Update. I purchase the following fish a few days ago.

4 Giant Danios
1 Convict Cichlid

So far everything is working well and I ought to get some pictures soon.
