110g planted tank lighting

Hi MFK, I was wondering if this light would work for a semi planted 110g tank with some clown loaches in it. This is the light http://www.thatpetplace.com/freshwater-aqualight-t5-dual-fluorescent-light-48in

It's the aqualight t5 dual fluorescent light 48in

I was planning on going one blue one white. Or should i go both white?

Depends on what you are aiming to grow i guess? but in theory, a Dual T5 lighting setup should be okay for most plants, given they have everything else they need...

As for the blue light question, since the Blue lights don't do much for planted tanks, i would personally choose two white bulbs...

Thanks Fat Homer, Yea i figured two whites would be better for the plants. I was thinking for like amazon sword, bamboo, frogbits. What else do you mean i may need besides the lights the tank currently just has a filter no Co2 or anything. What do you suggest i plant the plants in the gravel?

I would not use that light for a 110 with plants. The lights are decent for viewing, but they don't have very much penetrating power. Also, those fixtures have a tendency to fry bulbs or break themselves. Personally, I would go with at least a T5HO, but I'm not even sure if those can get all the way down to the substrate of a 110.

T5 would work, but T5-HO would naturally be better for light penetration...

I guess i didnt see the part being 110, in which case you also have to keep in my the spread of light over the tank, since as an example, my 200g has a total of 8 lights 4 on each side of the tank to ensure a nice even spread of light

I have a 110 bow front and the 2 t5 worked for me. if you don't care to see to much of your fish and just growing plants make sure you use the right bulbs, and if its mostly for viewing the fish then there are bulbs for for that too. hope this helps

I would go with a Pink plant bulb and a 6000k-6700k

Home Depot sells T5 shop lights now. You can check tomorrow if they are cheaper compared to name brand t5.
