I'm setting up the tank this weekend. Once it has cycled (Trying a fishless cycle) I'm going to put in my 10" bgk, and 12" pleco. I was just wondering on some ideas for a monster fish that would be compatable with the bgk, and wouldn't out grow the 110. At least not out grow it inside of a couple of years. After a couple years, I would be able to upgrade if need be.

maybe an aequidens rivulatus? they don't get very big...:character0004:

maybe some species of cichlid? or a needle nose gar? not sure what kind of fish you like. which kinds of monster fish do you like? cichlids, oddballs, ancient species, etc? btw wat are the dimensions?

I like all types of monsters. I was contemplating a clown knife fish possibly. A needle nose gar would be nice too. I just have a hard time finding one that doesn't have it's beak bent from running into the side of the fishstore tank.

My tank dimmensions are: 17" x 47" It is a 110g tall style. Not the best suited I imagine for a lot of the monster fish out there. It is however a style that fit in the space I have.

My biggest concerns right now, is that I get a monster that won't be unhappy in my tank. And also that it is compatible with my Black ghost Knife fish. The bgk is 10"-12" long right now.

And what exactly in laymans terms is a (aequidens rivulatus). I'm not exactly up on my latin. LOL.

Thank you for your help.

Can't go wrong with an Oscar.

FYI Needle nose "gars" are said to do best in a slightly brackish setup.

aequidens rivulatus is a midle sized very coloufull american cichild called green terror....

wen you don't recognise a fish by it's name google it...

but if you are goin' for the gars, then add a surubim lima wich isn't as big as other from same species, and a polypterus (bixir):character0004:

green terrors can be pretty nasty in my experience. as snake_eyes said, you cant go wrong with an oscar (ive got a soft spot for the old oscar even tho it is pretty common)my advice is to watch the bgk if you havent kept one before. i was very surprised at how mean they can be when they want to!!

How about a native?

Want something strange, get a mudpuppy.

Look around, there's some neat stuff out there.
