When it comes to anything electronic, I'm soo out of my depth, so I hope you can help...

I'm thinking of getting a couple of sun sun filters
Seeing that they have a fair reputation.
However, the voltage is 110v and here in Japan, we use 100v.

I would assume that they would work, but also pump less gph?
Would the lower voltage result in any problems down the road?

I don't think a 10V difference would be a big deal, but I'm no electrician either. Have you measured the actual voltage that you're getting at your outlets?

Hello; Did a little search. Several "what if's" so no straight answer. Lower voltage than specified for an appliance might do damage, but it depends on a few things. Older appliances with motors can get too hot trying to run when line voltage is more than 10% less than specified. Apparently the low voltage during a brown out has caused motors to burn out in older stuff. Newer stuff can have sensors and protection circuits.
Some may have built in voltage modifier components allowing the product to work with what ever voltage is available.
I guess the answer ranges around maybe and it depends.

Best beat is to check the manual and see what it say on the voltage part. If it says 100-220 than ur fine. "I think" the eheim pump will say what's the voltage on itself. If too low of voltage u have a chance of damaging the pump/filter as S skjl47 have mentioned. Good luck

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but do you not have the Asian version of the sunsuns over there made to run on 100v? I swear I've heard of this being the case because some people in the US got the Asian version and blew them up plugging them into either 110 or 220 amp services in their house.

According to sunsun, they don't make a 100v version...I did contact them directly.
