Hello MFK’ers.
I’m still looking to rehome the RTC I got out of 40 gal tank (and put into my 150gal). The previous owner said he hadn’t grown in several months, so I just wanted to get him out of there.

He has grown considerably, and is now pushing 1ft.
Unknown gender, healthy fish.
He does have gill curl on one side, but it doesn’t appear to be a problem.
Eats everything, previously frozen fish, shrimp, squid, scallops, mussels, worms, insects, and home-grown convict cichlids who wander too close. AND he even gobbles down pellets now.

Willing to drive a little ways for the right home. Open to trades for bichir or other (smaller species) catfish.
If you have a very large space for him, price is negotiable.

Hey guys, I found a potential home for the RTC.
says he’s got a 1300 gal pond, not heated but since it’s well-oxygenated it’s about 80F right now. Asked him about winter time since scaleless fish are temp. sensitive, and he said he’s got an inside. 300gal tub for the colder months. So that’s a little sketchy for when he gets huge.

could this be an adequate home for him?
Any other questions I ought to ask?

What else is in the pond? Does he know how big this is going to get? Is he willing to sacrifice everything else in the pond? Is he willing to catch it out every fall to put inside when it's a beast?
If you are worried about it's continued health these are things I'd want to know.

thank you for the advice! I will certainly ask those questions to this guy (and other potential homes). Finding a good home for RTC is a lot of work!
Here is the posting I’ve had on CL:

But it doesn’t stop people with 150-300gal aquariums from texting me :swear:

New potential home.
1800gal above-ground, says there’s a few catfish and rainbow trout currently, but has plans on getting another tank for the RTC to be by himself eventually. When asked if it’s heated in winter, replied “Dont want my fish to die cold. Especially that beautiful red tail”:hearts:

I think it sounds great, what do y’all think?
If it’s a “go”, would you recommend free, or maybe $20-25? I’d be very happy for him/her to get a forever home, but he’s still a pretty awesome fish.
