What is your normal tap water have for nitrates?

The water coop, even dilutes ours with a 10 MGD, RO water treatment plant.

I guess 12.5 isnt too bad but have you looked into a whole home filtration system

During winter and spring I get nitrates up to about 10ppm coming out of my tap, normally I just bite the bullet and convince myself that 10ppm isn't as bad as it could be, and do extra water changes to help with the fact that even if I do a 100% change I still get 10ppm nitrate readings. Its annoying, but without breaking the law, I'm kind of stuck doing it this way for now. :)

I normally get 20 out of the tap...
20 straight out of the tap?! Holy wowzas! My nitrates in my tank get to 20 and I do a large water change! I don't think I could keep fish if year round I got nitrates that high from my tap.. I feel bad enough doing water changes with 10ppm, and that's only for 5-6 months of the year.. :(

Well above 40 is what does harm to the fish. I also do daily water changes, so the nitrates are a constant 20.
