Back in the early 90's we had a Datnioides Microlepis that we loved and, well, we lost due to a winter storm/power outage/ cold... You know. We're totally upgraded now and since last August I've been trying to get another one. None of the big city stores (35 miles away) could find one but our LFS (15 miles and in a corner of a feed store) has been in touch with their distributor all this time. Last Tuesday she called us and said they could get us one for $50.00 and that it would be 3 inches long. I said "yes!".
Well. It turned out to be 4 inches long ; and what a neat fish. The first pic is of it on its first day here and the second pic is on its 3rd day. This guy is right at home.
Colors coming out and an apetite that would make an NFL mother proud. At $12.50 an inch I'm satisfied with this purchase.
(P.S. I tested the water in the bag it arrived in and it was 180 ppm hardness and 7.4 ph. Our water is 180 ppm hardness, 7.6 ph, and we have driftwood. BIG wood). Happy fish everyone--

(Oh, and if it dies I'll be sure to tell you; but I'm thinkin' we'll have this fish for 10 years or more. Thanks for reading this).
