I just set up a 12 Gal. JBJ Nano in my wifes classroom. It is needing a new bulb soon. It currently has a 50/50, 24 watt in it. Should I replace w/the same bulb (50/50) or go w/a 10K daylight. Stock is/will be...

1 Red Sword - Was struggling in my 110.
1 small Anubias Nana frag from main tank.
probably some sort of Dwarf Val. or Hair Grass
1 Med/Lg. background plant, most likely another sword since they r local.
Maybe a Crypt Wendtii, again easily aquired and hardy.
Black sand is substrate with a little black gravel in the corners for planting

Fish will be a handful of Tetras, 2 Ottos, female Albnio BN pleco.
MTS and Cherry shrimps will round out the livestock.

No ferts. or chemicals will be added since wifey doesn't want to. I will be doing 10% weekly WC. Will most likely be 20-30% Bi-weekly.

If set-up seems doomed for failure please let me know. I can just through a few shellies in there instead.

thanks

i'd go with a 10,000k or 6500k bulb. i would add some Excel to that tank everyday. it's simple enough, just give her a little syringe and tell her that exact mL to add each day. very easy and the plants will love it

Thanks Jose...

10K's are on sale so I will get a couple of those.

When should the Excel start? Tank was set-up yesterday w/some Bio-balls, older media and some small plants. Going to get some plants today or Thurs. and install Fri. Some fish will be added next Mon. or Wed.

id start adding it as soon as the plants are in. it's a source of organic carbon for them
