I just got a 12 gallon nano cube and i'm using it for freshwater. What plant suggestions would you recommend? Is the lighting it comes with adequate for good plant growth?

What kind of lighting does it come with?

I would do something like anubias nana petite, dwarf clover or baby tears, needleleaf java fern, etc. Do you know what wattage your bulbs are?

the lights that come with the 12 deluxe grow algae in your tank really fast. I'm talking like 2 days and your gravel will be covered. I might just use it for saltwater because of that reason.

the lighting is two 24-watt 50/50 compact fluorescent lamps.

Hello again, 50/50s are most practical for marine use. They are a combination bulb of actinic and 10k. You would do best to replace these with a bulb more condusive to freshwater plant growth, like a 6700k- or something between 5000 and 8000k. If you have access to a variety chose two different bulbs within that range to cover a wider spectrum. Many plant specific bulbs give off a red glow.

If your 50/50 bulbs are new and unused you may be able to sell them for 1/3-1/2 original new price. It will help cover the cost of your replacements. Or if you have any desire to go marine in the future put them in a box and hold onto them.
