Can I house a pair of 12 inch Jade gobies with a 5 inch red tail catfish in a 700 g tank? Other tank mates include a 6 inch flowerhorn and an 8 inch platinum koi pair. Water conditions are at its best and I do a 20 % change every day + 2 large canister filters . I am mostly concerned about the rtc . By the way , can u pls tell me how big do jades get and for how long do they live?

Pls note that I am well prepared to house my rtc in the future and pls don't reply saying that my tank is too small. just give me a few opinions.

I'd bet a twelve inch Jade goby would eat (or at least try to) the RTC and the Flowerhorn at some point even in a 700 gallon tank. Try to find some gobies in the 8-10 inch range and you should be ok. Don't go too small or the RTC will try to eat them!

On a side note, if you are changing 20% of your water a day, that's like 1000 gallon a week, 4000 gallons a month! What's your water bill like?

I don't know about the jade goby being able to eat a 5" fish. Their mouths and throat aren't as big as a peacock bass of the same size. A 12" peacock bass would have a difficult time (and may even kill itself) trying to eat a 5-6" fish (Green terror). My bass never tried because it probably knew it would choke. In the long run, I can see the RTC eating the jade goby once it gets big enough.

I would easily see a jade goby living 10+ years in the right conditions.

LOL ,oh no no not like that , I recently started doing it because my flower horn stopped eating and now he's getting better. just doing it for a week or so and I collect the water to drain into a pond after filtration. Otherwise it would be ridiculous...lol
