Hehe.. I went down to the local supermarket to get a couple of things last night and my daughter tagged along. When we got to the checkouts, we used the isle that is for baskets only. Generally 12 or less items etc. As we are standing there, I realize the lady in front of me has a fairly full trolley.
Right above her head was a sign saying hand baskets only and under that, 12 or less. I said to my daughter in a very calm but loud voice "Kiara, can you tell me what that sign above the ladies head in front of us says.?
She replied by reading the sign out aloud.
I said "Do you understand what it means?"
She said "Yeah! We can go here because we only have 6 things."
I then said to her "You should feel really good about yourself for that, well done sweety!"
She then proceeded to ask why she should feel so good?
All the time this conversation has been loud enough for everyone around to hear including the girls serving behind the counters.
I then looked at her and said "Well ,you managed to read and understand that sign at 8 yrs of age yet the lady in front of us is an adult and doesn't seem to be able to do so."
My daughter then looks at me and says. "Maybe she just doesn't care"
Well, everyone around except the lady started laughing including the cashiers. The lady ended up getting out of our isle and proceeded to an isle designated for trolleys and amazingly not even once looked at us. It seemed even though she couldn't read or count she could hear
