he was about 4.5 inches long when I got him, he is now about 6 inches long

He started to colour up about 5-6 months ago.

when I got him he had nice colour, but nothing like this.

he had the red, but not so much in the body and not nearly as intense.

he also lacked a lot of the blue when I got him, or at least, it was not as intense.

O.K...........I have got mine (5'') with a 8" gold sev.......it is nowhere near as colorful as yours and i bought it at 2'' from tfp in lancaster....so reputable source!!...........it should color up soon i guess!!!

hopefully the gold sev is not stressing out the rotkeil!!!

I have seen some 8 inch ones.

8 inches is about average for a severum, but the odd one can get close to 10 inches. I have seen a few big female greens over the years that were probably 10 inches, but its pretty rare to get them that big.

He is actually quite a nasty fish.

I have him in a 90 with my giant 18 inch barbs and a few big cats so that he doesn't kill everything.

He used to live in a 30 but was way too aggressive for his tankmates:
