hi guys!
So i need abit of help on afew things for my sump:
- is 30 gal sump for 120 gal good enough?
- What media is affordable enough to sustain a packed aquarium 120, and basically lasts forever
- How to cycle a tank quickly? Like few weeks

Thanks

30g is enough. I would load the sump with ceramic rings, pond matrix, a couple of marinepure 8x8x4 blocks and your sump should be able to handle pretty much any stock. There is no shortcut to cycling. Do it right. Some people use ammonia, some seed old media, I seed. If not get some sacrafical fish and let them start the cycle

I’ve never heard of ceramics being replaced I’ve had mine for Over 5 years and they still look great

hmm would it be possible to send me the lings to the media you have, it would really help, thanks.

I bought the cheapest ceramic rings you can imagine like 2.99 a lb from a Chinese wholesaler years ago lol. The other one I use is sera siporax and marinepure 8x8x4 blocks. They are in the running too and have not been replaced

what do you use them on, tank and capacity?

It’s a few hundred gallons. I am heavily stocked with fishes, big fishes that produce big waste.

I use lava rock from the garden center, a big bag for about $5.
I have also used rings, and have been using the same bags for decades. Bio media is just a surface for beneficial bacteria to live on.

And I agree there is no shortcut unless you get seasoned media, and decor from an already seeded tank.
