I have a tank with a few s. american cichlids and was thinking of getting a couple of peacock bass. Is a 120g tank enough?

To grow out in maybe, but definately not when its larger. What kind of SA cichlids do you have? Make sure they dont bully/kill the peacocks.

X2 A very nice growout, but you will need to upgrade to a larger setup for adult peacock bass.

i've got a jack, 2 texas, and a jag all between 5-8 inches. i'm going to set up a smaller tank until p. bass can live with them.

my roomate has all those fish and boy are they aggro. How big is the smaller tank? Keep in mind that those SA cichlids will continue to grow, so its going to be a while till you can safely mix your cichla in with them.

I don't know that unless you have a massive tank that kind of mix would really work. The cichlids you're keeping are normally fiercely territorial and will more than likely bully/kill cichla or just stress them to the point of death. If you're thinking of keeping cichla, personally I would suggest a species only tank of various species (ocellaris, orinocensis...). For the most part they do alright with eachother (different cichla species) so you can have a nice collection. As for tank, a 120 would work well for growout but adult cichla are gonna need something much larger. You're talking about fish that reach 24"+, therefore you're gonna need a larger footprint tank as they're active something at minimum 6 foot by 2 foot and that's still not really big enough. An 8x3 would work well

I just acquired a number of 7-12" SA cichlids, including pbass, jag, red devils, vieja, etc. and put them in a 125 long. It was going good for a few weeks until degenerating into a brawl. It's amazing what can trigger it. I put a divider in to segregate a pbass that had got injured, and within hours all the fish were mauling each other. I only removed about a foot of space to separate the pbass.
