hi all after i finish my 300 gallon build i will be working on rebuilding my 120 gallon 4x2x2 foot tank. originally the tank was built with 3 viewing windows front side and side, and each window had a 1 inch thick oak frame that was use to build the tank. these three frames were then attached to the back and bottom which were 3/4 inch ply. so after lots of growing pains and learning i had a though for it when i rebuild due to water damaged wood.

the tank had 1/2 inch acrylic windows and i am in the process of removing all the silicone off them. so my idea was to solvent weld the three panes of acrylic together and then have a top and bottom frame made from oak that would be connected together with another section of oak that would be attached to the back and bottom of the tank which would be plywood. i am also thinking of euro-bracing the tank so there would be no center brace.

here is a pic of my proposed idea do you think it would be safe? i think it would be cool and a lot cheaper than buying the two other pieces of acrylic to build the whole tank out of acrylic

Why not use those windows all in the front and make an 8x2x2

i dont have the room to have an 8 foot tank. this tank is in my living room and i like the side windows so i can see inside the tank from all angles. so i was thinking about the logistics of building this tank and it is going to be a little tough i am thinking i will have to build the back and bottom of the tank and seal this part then i will have to install the acrylic using silicone on all the acrylic to wood joints. then i will have to attatch the oak frame with silicone and then screw the oak frame to the plywood base and back.

It will look better but you're right assembling will be tougher. Do you have a router?
