I'm in the process of buying equipment for my 1200 gallon pond, and I am wondering if I should use carbon in my filters. If it matters, I will be making a 4000 gph w/d filter consisting of filter socks and 80 gallons of lava rock. Should I include carbon in the filter? If so how much?

I guess when it comes down to it, many people will probably disagree as this is an opinion question.

It's not an opinion question, it's a technical one. If you have a need for carbon you use it, if not you don't...BUT...you always leave yourself that option. So build the W/D with an area to put carbon in should you find a need for it, and put filter material in there when you don't. (remember carbon needs to have pre-filtered water or it gets clogged fast and needs to be replaced every 1-3mo.s).
