So, over the last two days we have decided to overhaul our tank, visually and stock-wise. We took a trip to Michaels today and this is what we ended up with. Previously it was just some fancy plants and some driftwood.

The tank will have some discus, a few geos and a couple rays until they outgrow this. It should be a stunner! Now only if I had a better camera...
As far as determining which plants are safe, I'm just going with my gut on this one. If the fish start to act up or I see color bleed from the plants, they're getting thrown out.
To get the plants to droop down, I just bent the "branches" of the plants and hung them over the back of the tank. Most of the plants at michaels seem to have some wire inside the plastic that allows them to hold their shape. But no worries, there's a thick coat of plastic over that, so no metal is in contact with water.
