I was thinking about stacking concrete blocks underneath with some 4x4s or 2x4s on top and that would be the stand for the tank...I know this won't look the best but I'm just trying to save money because I can get the 2x4s and/or 4x4s for no cost. I can also get the concrete blocks for no cost.

I also think if I decided to do concrete blocks with 4x4s or 2x4s on top, that it would take a lot less time than building a stand out of just 2x4s/4x4s.

& theres probably already a thread about the advantages/disadvantages of this but when I do a search, nothing relevant seems to come up.

Would this be a good idea? Any disadvantages? I heard concrete blocks can crack and eventually crumble under pressure and the tank and everything will be about 1000 pounds.

Any help is appreciated, thanks!

They will be fine you can skin them easily too or just use a black sheet to make it look better. A lot of people have used them

I did this back in college when I didn't have the funds to get a stand for the 110 I had back then.
Make sure its level and you'll be good to go.

They will definitley not crack from the weight of a 120 gal but this is going to look ugly as *** lol. 2x4 are cheap and so is plywood u can make a nice one from those

A black sheet is a good idea, thanks!

My biggest concern would making sure they are as level as possible, but other than that should be no problems.
It will be level, all of it will be on concrete. Thanks

It will be going in the basement, so no worries about it being level or not :)

I am fully aware and agree 100%...but my parents would rather me use concrete blocks with wood across the top because they think it would be much safer. They also think it will take a lot less time to do. I'm not going to be looking at the stand anyway...I'm going to be looking at the tank :)

& if I did build a stand out of just 2x4s and 4x4s, I would have to buy the stain, some hinges for cabinet doors, heavy duty screws, a few metal braces, and whatever else for it to look the way I wanted it which would probably cost over $50...and I don't have the money to do that, neither do my parents really.

& since my 120g didn't come with any lids, I plan to buy a clear sheet of acrylic at menards for $9, since it would cost over $70 to buy the lids at my LPS. :) (Theres 2 braces in the middle of my 120g, thats why I say "lids" and not "lid")

Sounds like you have the bases covered. A black sheet is definitely a good way to hide the blocks, i did this as well.
That sounds like a good deal for the acrylic as well.
One thing you can do with the blocks is rest the blocks on the floor, support the tank on the 2x4s and then you can nail or screw a sheet of vainer onto the 2x4s to hide the blocks. Makes it look a little bit cleaner, but it seems like you have things under control. Good luck.
