Hello all, first post but I've been lurking for awhile! Love this place

Anyways I'm finally getting back in the game with a 120g 4x2x2 amazon-ish planted biotope, I would love any input or advice on my livestock plans.

I want:
8 domestic discus (raising from ~3")
1 black ghost knife
2 German blue rams
2 Bolivian rams
8-10 assorted Cory cats
Attempt to maintain a shrimp colony (?)

Any room left, or is this too much? Anything you would personally add or subtract?
Should I grow the discus to 4" before adding tankmates? Lol tons of questions...

Id say overstocked, not sure how good that will mix. Bump anyone ?

Might work, im no discus expert but i think i would would less discus. With 8 and the rest of the stock youll have a pretty heavy bioload. I would think 4 maybe 5 discus if i remember right they need to be in groups just dont remember how large of group. Also not sure if BGK and rams will work together. So maybe one or the other on them. BGK arent aggressive just dont know if he'll try to eat the rams when larger.

I'd remove the bgk and 3 discus.

5 discus is easily enough for a school. Plus they are compatible with the rest of the stock, the bgk however isn't. I had a 12" one which would terrorise anything and everything in the tank, including my 6" GT and breeding pair of cons. So personally I would remove it. It could make a snack out of shrimps easy and potentially could kill any of the other thankmates. They may look peaceful, but trust me they aren't.

Ok, that helps

So if I drop the bgk, how many lemon tetra or similar schooling fish, could I add?

Filtration will be a 45 gal wet/dry sump.

Thanks

I don't see anything wrong with ur original stock list. BGK's are rarely agressive and if you get him as a baby and raise him with those tankmates I doubt he will eat any of them. Mine is 6" and I added 3 guppies in the tank 2 months ago and he hasn't eaten them.
About the discus it is always recomended to get them at at least 4" if you're doing a community tank, cuz they recuire extra water changes when smaller. 5 is a minimum for a group of discus 6 is ideal, but 8 is not a problem for your 125g tank since each discus needs minimum 10g so 8 would need 80-90g for which u have room. Plus a few may die so better then getting new ones to fill in, if u have 8 and a couple of them dies ( hopefully they won't ) u'll still have enough for a group
Also for the rams I recomend getting 1 male to 2 females ratio
TBH I really like ur original stock list and I hope that if you decide to keep it that way you will post some pix for us :)

Oh there will be plenty of pictures of whatever I end up with but I think in going for that stock list. Looks good in my head anyways lol.

However, I fear am I still months away from being totally setup and running.
Ill be making a stand and other various DIY projects so I'll be sure to share :)
