I'm curious as to whether you guys will think my stocking will work. It's a 4×2×2 tank.
1x red texas cichlid
1x eb jack Dempsey
6x silver dollars
5x tiger loaches

I agree, EBJD's are so prone to bloat and the stress of living with a Red Texas will not end well-most likely. Also silver dollars really should be in a 6 foot tank. There are tons of awesome other fish you could stock that tank with.

Well I was wanting to get a female red terror opposed to the ebjd, but outside of having a hard time finding a female, I just figured the aggression would be off the charts.

It's hard to say, fish are all different like people. I have a 2.5 inch Festae at home, I'm not sure if it's male or female but it's the single most aggressive fish I've ever owned. I've seen people on youtube with pairs that don't have aggression problems at all.

Yeah. I'm just scared to getting a juvie without knowing sex because I don't have a tank big enough to house a full grown red terror male. I came to a conclusion with the ebjd because it's one of the only other cichlids that I've wanted to get and it'll be around the size of the RT

You could order 6 or so and grow them out enough until you get a female. Probably not worth the trouble though.

I've thought about that, but it seems like a pain. I'd have to house them in the 120g with everything else or in my 55, and they definitely wouldn't be good in my 55.

Festae do grow real slow, maybe you could upgrade by the time they're actually big enough to need another tank.
