Hi, I am looking to upgrade from a 55G. I have three Oscars at the moment. (Tiger 10'', Red 8'', Albino 5'') Eventually I want to have more fish. Probably this stock- Jaguar Cichlid, Blue/Green Texas Cichlid (H. Carpinte), and a Green Terror (Gold Saum). I'm pretty sure that a 125 won't house these fellas when they're full grown. My gf pointed out a 150g in the lfs. I like it, but it is really boxy, the dimensions are like 4x3x3 or something. With the fish mentioned above, I'm sure I'll have some aggression issues, and I think that a little length would be beneficial if not necessary. I haven't purchased a 180 because I'm poor, period. What do you think I should do? Can I put these above mentioned fish together? Should I suck it up and buy the 180? Any suggestions are appreciated.

well that's easily answered. suck it up and buy that 180 dude! :woot:

get the 180 and you dont have to buy new.
i am sure there are second hand sites in the US and some US members will point you to it.

suck it up! ;)

Howdy,

When I got my 220 gal (AllGlass), it was only $64 more expensive than the 180 gal. If you bite the bullet and get a big tank, spend the extra few bucks and go even bigger. That's what I did, and I have no regrets!

I agree - suck it up and splurge. There is no reason to go new - there are a million and one reputable places that sell gently used tanks, or there are several wholesale places who have huge markdowns on awsome tanks. You can PM me for some of those, but overall, I say do it - go balls out.

Just remember that with buying a big tank for monster fish you will need a good filtration system and i personally think a wet/dry sump is the way to go and you gotta account for all these things aswell like the media, sump, pump, heaters, lighting and not to mention the stand which can be expensive. I only mention this because as a student the costs do run up

Check out the DIY section on here and have a look at the DIY tank stand and sump by Hardboiled - i made my sump n stand through these guidelines - saves you alot of money
