125 filtration (I know, one of the hundreds.. :/)

so im wondering if i could have enough filtration on my 125 with 2 oscars. I want to run 2 fluval 404's on my 125. they are rated at 100gal each. i dont trust my sump i built haha. its scary looking to me. like i feel like it wont work :/ so i was hoping the 2 404's would be fine.

Sump would be great if you get it running, but the fluval should work as long as you don't go nuts and get a ton more stock

I would go with the FX5, much better option. I have 2 405s on my 75 and wish I had an FX5, much better filtration.

I wouldn't do the sump, in FW a canister is a much better option.

I don't think so. Even if bio was enough, oscars are messy fish and may leave a lot to be desired in the way of mechanical. Details on the sump? Gallon, pump, turnover etc??

EDIT reptileguy beat me to it.. I also run an FX5 on my 125 gallon and have other filters running as well.

i have used two 404's on a 130 gallon before. it did okay. but not excellent

yea i wasnt thinking of them as a whole. i may be getting an FX5 here soon from a friend for a good price.


but for now, bare bottom with only 2 oscars and 2 404's i think will be ok. they seem to have enough flow. and if i can get some help on my sump, then ill have that set up also.

Just a sidenote: DO NOT add plecos if you don't wanna do tons of water changes ... They are just as messy as oscars imo.

but as they out grow the 55 they have to go in ya know. im gunna talk to my friend to see about the fx5 here soon. probly do the fx5 next to the 404
