Ok, this will need a bit of set up. First of all I am currently in school for Mechanical Engineering, and we have to do a senior design project to fullfil the graduation requirements. I will be starting this mid summer next year. I am planing on building a Wet/Dry filter that has a pump that has an adjustible flow rate. This will allow the same sump to be used on a range of tank sizes and setups. I will be compairing this to HOB filters. My question is what type of fish should I use. I plan on using a standard 125 gal tank. I would like the fish to be pretty hardy, large and messy. I plan on keeping a minamal amount of fish in the tank. Most likely less than 5, with one or two large fish. I was thinking about Oscars or possibly some type of Bichir. Any suggestions or comments would be welcome and helpful.

Thanks

like the guy said if you want to put that filter to the test get the snapping turtle. A nice Channel cat, Redtailed cat, or a couple of Piranhas. Piranhas will really make a big mess.:woot: :headbang2

Pacus, RTCs, and CCs will outgrow a 125.
I would go with some Os, dithers, and some smaller cats, like the Rapheal? I think that one stays fairly small.

dont get a pacu unless you plan on getting him a 300 gal+ tank after about a year or so. mine is 19 inches too big for a 125. oscars are messy most of their food comes right out of their gills but you should check out the plecos......some are pretty cool grow to all different sizes and are also quite messy.

Oscars or 5 full grown A. gigas.....................
