Im looking to set my 125 up and am in a stump. I had a LARGE 2 year old Oscar and a few tinfoils in it but gave them all away. Npow i have a few fancy goldis and a hifin in there and its just not what im looking for. I like this BIG MEEN and NASTY...
What would be a differnt kinda fish i could go with? I kinda like the one fish idea so thats not a problem.
Mabey a pleco and a lima cat or something. I was thinking of a Jag but cant seem to find one i like. Would a Clown Knife work? or is it too big? I dont know..
What would be the Most deffernt, BIGest, meenest, nastyest fish i could go with.
i have a
125 oceanic 6' tank
2 HOB 350s and a cascade 1500 canister.
thanks

try a warmouth, native American fish,
wm2.jpg

they are generally more colorful than that pict. Darker, greener tones

you could probably keep 2 or 3, one would be fine with a bull head catfish (they get about 12-14")

you could go with green sunfish, (also north American native) probably 4 of those, very aggressive they get about 8-9"

2-3 bluegill (my favorite) they can get 12"

one bowfin would probably be ok in a 125 but they are kind of high maintance, live or frozen food etc.

one red fin pickerel would work, i think, not 100% sure, once again though live or frozen food, (some eat pellets
but a true monster

large mouth get to big in my opinion, they would need atleast 300 gal full grown

warmouth, green sunfish, and bluegill, will readily eat floating pellets, their diet should be supplemented once a week or so with bloodworms, crickets, earthworms, shrimp, etc. stay away from store bought feeders, (carry diease)

you will not need a heater with these fish, they do fine in water under 78 f, if water temp goes over run an air stone to help with o2 levels,

lots of people think that most native american fish require water under 70 f, but all these species thrive where i live and the summer water temp is easily in the low to mid 80's, i think o2 levels probably play a more important role.

all these species i mentioned are available for sale off the internet, and if you look hard enough you will find people willing to send them to you for the price of shipping alone.

my2 cents

Redfin pickerel you could go with about 3-5 in that tank. They get about 10-12" MAX. Some never make it past 6". And yes they are TRUE monsters. Very interesting fish especially during hunting time. Also you might want to consider grass pickerel. They are the same thing but have slightly less red. As for the food...I have not gotten mine onto frozen food yet. They are a little difficult to convert but it CAN be done. And that is a no-go on the bowfin. They are monsters in the size sense and need a monster sized tank. They can easily get past 24". Bluegill would be great, greensunfish would be awsome (they are really mean and so are bluegill), also longear sunfish(ver pretty colorful fish), yellow perch, rockbass, all of those would work in that tank. If those sound interesting just give me a holler and I will give you some more info on them. Good luck.

I like the looks of this warmouth and bull head catfish set up. Were would i get these from,i have never seen these at the LFS around here?
Would it be best to have just one warmouth or a few if i could find them?
They kinda look like a bass

They are natives, so grab your pole and cross your fingers. You won't even need a heater for these guys and they are really cool. They look like LMB because LMB are sunfish and not true bass.

If you want something that really looks/acts like a LMB then you are going to want to get a few green sunfish. They are the most bass like fish you are going to find without actually getting a bass. Plus they are found EVERYWHERE. I have had a little bit of trouble finding warmouth...
