I searched but could not find anything... I have a empty 125 normal shape. My question is any ray that i could keep for life in it.... I plan on upgrading at some point to a 240-300 range but I have no idea when, so I will not plan my purchase on the upgrade.

Thanks

the smallest rays kept in aquaria typically grow to have 12-14" disks...these being reticulated-types and hystrix. The rays have a large bio output, and are also very fragile to water conditions. Take all of this into consideration, but I've seen it done in smaller tanks than that.. rays are somewhat expensive, so if you lose one you'll be out a bit of money!

I am not worried about bioload or any of that. I am comfortable with that aspect kept Puffers, aro's, oscars etc.... if they grow to 14 or so inches that will not give much space in a 18 inch wide tank....

all rays will eventually outgrow a 125. It is possible a single male hystrix could be ok for life in there though. Most male hystrix should stop at 10-12" so a length of around 18" tip to tail. Bigger is always better.

Does not sound to me like I can keep one in a 125 for life.... I will put off a ray until I have a bigger tank maybe something more square even.

thanks guys

Yeh I would wait till u have a bigger tank if u plan to house a ray or rays for life man...

i had a fully mature 4 year old scobina that was no bigger than a *** packet

but to tell the truth a 125 is way to small for any ray as i have never seen a ray stay as small as this scobina chances are you wont be able to find true scobina for sale anyway

you would need to double that tank size and even that wont last for life
